These are very similar to crowns in that they cover the top of the tooth and are moulded to fit its natural shape. An inlay rests within the bumps (cusps) of your teeth on the chewing surface whilst onlays tend to be slightly larger and cover more than one cusp.
Inlays and onlays can be made from porcelain or composite resin, sometimes gold is used, and they are bonded into place so they last a long time. They can also be used to cover existing metallic fillings.
